Get yourself fit for retrofit with our free* Understanding Domestic Retrofit course. We’ve designed this 2-week programme to equip you with everything you need to kick-start your career in the domestic retrofit sector. Places are available for unemployed people living in Merseyside.

Whether you’re new to retrofit with no previous training, or already have some limited experience in the sector, our course will help you gain new skills and career options for a fast-growing domestic energy efficiency sector.

By completing the course, you’ll also gain a recognised Level 2 qualification and links to local employers. And most importantly, you’ll get be ready to start work in an exciting and fast-growing sector that is desperate for talented new recruits like you!

YOU’VE LANDED ON THIS PAGE AT JUST THE RIGHT TIME. SKILLED DOMESTIC RETROFIT WORKERS ARE IN HIGH DEMAND AS THE SECTOR GEARS UP FOR THE CHALLENGE OF NET-ZERO 2050.

So, what is retrofit? It sounds like an ’80s themed aerobics class but retrofit is actually a construction-related process of identifying and installing modern energy-saving systems in buildings. Domestic retrofit focuses specifically on people’s homes and involves systems such as wall and loft insulation, heat pumps and solar PV.

If you think this sounds like an interesting and rewarding sector to work in, we completely agree with you. And that’s why we’d like to help you get your foot in the door, and get fit for retrofit.

Anyone aged 19+ who is interested in a new career in domestic retrofit and energy efficiency. Training is designed for new entrants with no, or limited, retrofit experience. Free places on the course are available to unemployed people in Merseyside.

Understanding Domestic Retrofit is a 2-week course.

There are no courses planned at present.

As part of a small group, you’ll receive practical, face-to-face teaching and training from a fully qualified DMR retrofit tutor. Training will cover all fundamental aspects of the domestic retrofit industry including:

– Retrofit installation methods and materials.
– Interpreting documents such as drawings, specifications, and manufacturers’ information.
– Health and safety, and industry regulations.
– Job roles and working as part of a team.

You’ll also receive extra support with employability skills, health and well-being, and CSCS card application.

Yes, you’ll gain a Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit. This is an industry-recognised accredited qualification awarded by NOCN

Whilst there is no guarantee of a job after finishing the course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge needed to take your first step into a new career in the domestic retrofit sector.

The course is completely free! It’s funded by the government (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy). Places for company employees are heavily subsidised but subject to a small employer contribution towards the cost.

To receive a fully-funded place on the Understanding Domestic Retrofit course, you must be:

  • Aged 19 or older.
  • Living in Merseyside.
  • Currently unemployed.
  • Interested in a retrofit career.
  • Willing to commit to two weeks of training.

Yes, we can run this course for your employees although we don’t currently have funding to cover the costs. All our courses are designed around the needs of the company. Please contact us to discuss a tailored training package suited to your requirements.
