Last thing you want is work slowing down.
And we can all recognise it’s the absolute worst when you can’t prove what you can actually do.
So let’s get straight to the point.
Work is slowing down, and you’re asking the question, how can I make myself more employable? Well, your qualifications will be due an update.
That looks like a construction NVQ that upgrades your CSCS card, a step into that supervision role. You should be wondering how to become a skilled worker who’s irreplaceable.
So here’s what we’re going to do for you, we’re gonna break through all the noise, and tell you what you need to be doing to keep you employed. Plain and simply.
First of all, you’re not alone.
Fewer starts, jobs pushed back, phones not ringing.
It’s happened to everyone, so don’t sweat. They’re still knocking about, aren’t they?
Maybe you’re on about something more recent. How projects started to drop across the UK throughout 2025.
Well don’t sweat, it’s forecasted to pick up again. The work hasn’t gone, it’s just on paused. And it’s going to come back looking for people who can prove they can do the job.
Which brings us to our next point, something you should definitely keep in mind.
Put yourself in the shoes of your gaffer or boss.
Work’s thin, they are making the unfortunate but necessary choice of letting somebody go. So who’s on the chopping board?
From the boss’ perspective. It could be those who aren’t proven qualified.
The most important piece of information you carry, is your Construction NVQ and your CSCS Card. That’s the game you’ve gotta play.
Let us help you out here. Since grandfather rights have come to an end, those CSCS cards are the most valuable thing a construction worker needs. So, your next step is to get that CSCS card in your back pocket.
Because we know you can do the job, prove it to anyone who comes asking.
Right, let’s say you’ve already got your construction NVQ. That’s fantastic, but what’s stopping you from upskilling and becoming indispensable?
Why not look into getting a Level 3 NVQ? One common thing we always have to address is that getting an NVQ isn’t classroom work. It’s being on-site, surrounded by your workmates, and a member of DMR Training coming out to ensure you get your next card.
So, for years you’ve been the person everyone comes to for answers, for advice, running the gang, so let us ask you this. Are you officially recognised for this?
Because you should be, Afterall, you’re the person everyone turns to, so why not have your CSCS card reflect that?
Putting the word “supervisor” on your CV, with a golden CSCS Card to back it up, puts you miles ahead of the game.
You could even go further, get those level 6 & level 7 construction NVQs, and make yourself imperative to the company. It’s the perfect career path for someone in your position.
The point is a supervisor is more likely to remain employed and be universally employable because you’re the person who holds the project together.
You should also bear in mind that the UK currently has a skills shortage, making it a perfect opportunity to fill that construction skills gap.
Let’s put that notion to rest.
Most of the training available from DMR Training is government-funded. Most of our workers we train, it doesn’t cost them a penny.
The first question isn’t whether you can afford it. It’s whether you’re employed.
If you’re working in construction, based in England, and you’ve got a bit of time in the trade behind you, there’s a very good chance the qualification is free to you.
It’s all about timing.
You’re always working when it’s busy, so when it’s quiet, there’s no excuse. A lot of people sit and worry instead of acting.
Reframe your perspective. That quiet spell is a window of opportunity, you get your card sorted now, and when the work turns up, and it will, you’ll be ready to go.
We’re DMR Training. We do this all day, for people exactly like you, and there’s no hard sell.
Get in touch and we’ll tell you honestly what you could get qualified in, whether it’s funded for you, and how to fit it round the work you’ve already got on.
No pressure. Just a straight conversation about making sure the slowdown doesn’t catch you out.
