COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND SOCIAL VALUE

Since we opened our doors in 2013, we have put social responsibility and community outreach at the core of the business.

DMR isn’t just a business – we have put our full support behind many great causes over the past 10 years, and we hope to continue our support for as long as we’re open.

Our core values motivate us to keep doing more for the local community, our learners, and everyone we work with.

OUR CORE VALUES

We believe respect is a two-way street: show it to receive it.

We believe that flexible ways of working benefit everyone.

We believe that people from all walks of life should be given the same opportunities to succeed.

We believe that words need actions, time after time.

ISSUES WE CARE ABOUT

SUSTAINABLE PROJECTS

Protecting the environment through sustainability and eco-awareness is important to all of us in the DMR team.

Providing construction NVQs that help to prepare your business for the sustainable construction industry work is part of our green mission. Green skills training could allow you or your company to take on more projects within the sustainable construction industry. Insulation trades, solar panel installation and fenestration are all key qualifications within retrofit construction work.

Retrofit and sustainable building projects will be essential when it comes to helping the country achieve net zero emissions, as set out in the Paris Climate Agreement.

As well as providing green training in the construction sector, sustainable projects are important to us as a company. We attend eco construction events and seminars whenever we can, as well as events to protect and preserve the environment around us. For example, we get involved with planting trees and land conservation with the amazing City of Trees organisation.

In the office, we take care to reduce our emissions as much as possible  – we all play our part in keeping DMR’s sustainability pledges.

GIVING BACK

When we opened in 2013, the local community was so important in helping us grow to where we are now. That’s why at DMR, it’s important to us that we can give back.

There are many fantastic local causes that we support as part of our social value. We believe in supporting organisations that help local people and give people the best start in life.

Helping local sustainable communities has also been important to us over the years. We’ve helped Friends of Lilford Park (FoLP) renovate the iconic local park in the past, so local green space can be protected for future generations.

One of our purposes is to provide pathways for people to succeed in life – that’s why we support the amazing Boxing for Better. It’s a community club, founded by local amateur boxer David Morris. Boxing for Better provides young people with the tools to improve their physical and mental wellbeing through boxing.

David Morris, a passionate local lad, was recently recognised as a Coronation Champion for his work with the local community – and we’re honoured to keep supporting such a worthy cause.

Boxing for Better has proven that sports and exercise can be so beneficial for everyone. We support many social sports clubs that help our wider local community!

In 2022, we heard that the Westleigh Village Tamar Community Bowling Club needed new floodlights – and we decided to get involved. We helped them draft their application, sourced a lighting engineer, and paid for it. They were back to playing bowls in no time. They’re a strong community hub for older and younger people alike, and we’re glad we could help them.

We’re also very proud to support local rugby league club Leigh East as one of the kit sponsors for their U16s, Masters and Open-Age teams, as well as local football team Atherton Town Thunder.

Sport is key when helping young people develop their self esteem, strengthen social bonds and work on the key skills they will need for the future. We’ll keep sponsoring these clubs as long as we’re in business.

We’ve seen first-hand what these sports clubs do for our communities and it’s nothing short of remarkable. With local talent such as Leigh Leopards, Keely Hodgkinson and Ella Toone making headlines, local kids can see what’s possible they work hard and dream big.

As well as supporting local teams and clubs, the DMR team knows the important of supporting great charities. These charities have helped many of us in our personal lives, and we feel that it’s important for us to highlight these amazing organisations and what they do. We’re proud to say we support these amazing charities:

Children With Cancer
Ten children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. This amazing organisation won’t stop until that number is zero. They specialise in cancer research, supporting children with cancer and their families, and raising awareness.

Sands & Emma’s Evening
Sands is a charity doing everything in its power to prevent the tragedy of neo-natal death. They’re supported by an army of tireless volunteers like Michelle Codling – organiser of annual fundraising event, Emma’s Evening.

Stroke Association
Stroke strikes every five minutes in the UK. This charity is close to a lot of the DMR team’s hearts, and they do fantastic work spreading awareness, supporting carers of stroke survivors, and helping people rebuild after a stroke.

BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY

At DMR, we care about building a community and business that is founded on equality, integrity and fairness. Businesses that care about what they do and why they wanted to help people in the first place make the most impact.

Every learner who signs up with us is important. Through every process of getting their qualification, we always make sure that they have the support that they need.

No matter the question or issue, our assessors are always ready to help – and it shows in our testimonials. That’s why we have built strong relationships with many construction companies, as they trust us to provide the best possible service.

At DMR, we care deeply about helping people find ways to reach their full potential. By helping learners get their qualification through educational support and funding opportunities, we can help as much as we can!

Knowing that our learners have the tools they need to succeed and develop their careers is so important to all of us at DMR. That’s our purpose at DMR – and we can’t wait to keep helping our learners for another 10 years and beyond.

As well as helping learners and businesses, building the DMR community is very important to us.

Every one of us makes a difference to the DMR team, from our office team to our assessors.

We’re a Living Wage and Equal Opportunities employer – our staff deserve to be treated equally and fairly, and we commit to supporting them in every sense of the word.

We also regularly invest in schemes such as the Cycle to Work scheme – helping our staff stay healthy as well as helping the environment. Our team’s mental and physical health is important to us, which is why we invest in schemes such as this.

We also support our staff in their professional development, through qualifications, health and safety training, safeguarding training, first aid training, and more. When our team get the right support, we can do more for our learners – which is our purpose here at DMR.

Building a happy DMR community is part of our ethos and vision.

As well as building on our office culture, we also use our actual office spaces to support the local community.

After we retired our apprenticeship training academy, we wanted to create a space that was valuable to the community around us – and Thread & Yard was founded.

Thread & Yard is our indoor and outdoor coworking and social space for all of our employees, clients, and neighbours. Many important institutions to the local community operate from Thread & Yard, including Barclay’s bank.

After their Leigh branch closed, we wanted to make sure that they could continue helping the people around us. We’re so glad that they are able to use Thread & Yard as a base to provide face-to-face banking for many members of our local community.

We wanted to create a relaxed but professional workspace that would benefit the people around us, and we’re thankful to everyone who helped us design, build and make Thread & Yard what it is today.

If you’re interested in using Thread & Yard for your business, please get in touch with us and we’ll help you the best we can!

GETTING INVOLVED

Getting involved and meeting people within our industry is also really important to us.

If you follow any of our socials, you’ll know that we’re constantly getting involved with local industry and business events!

Attending these events help us stay connected with the industry and meet people who can give us a new perspective on what we do here.

We attend a wide variety of events, including construction events, sustainability events, careers events and educational talks. If there’s an event that we think will help us provide more to our learners and clients – we’ll be there.

Recently, we’ve attended many events that we think have been so beneficial to us.

Our Client Relationship Team have been Women In Construction ambassadors, who do great work pushing forward equality in the sector. At another event, some of us even got to meet Rugby League star Jamie Peacock! These events are crucial for us and making sure that DMR reaches more people – and we can’t wait to keep attending these events!

As well as attending amazing industry events, we also like to get involved with sustainable career development and careers events for young people.

The construction industry is changing – and there are plenty of new opportunities for young people. Green construction jobs are becoming essential within the industry – and the face of construction is definitely becoming more equal and diverse.

Every year the construction industry offers enough career opportunities to fill a football stadium – which is 88,000 people. We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential – and part of that is making sure that young people know of all the different avenues they can take.

That’s why you’ll often see us at career events – we think it’s so important that everyone can choose the right avenue for them in life. We want to help young people understand how they can get into a construction career, and ensure that they know what they need to do to get there.

We think it’s essential that we get involved in our industry and our community – and we will continue getting involved where we can.

OUR MISSION

Social value and community support are incredibly important to the DMR team, and we hope to only expand on these efforts as the business grows.

The more we can help our local community and invest in the causes that mean the most to us, we can take the DMR mission forward.
