SKILLS BOOTCAMPS - FAQS

Businesses, employees, self-employed workers, career changers, career breakers, unemployed people: with Skills Bootcamps there’s something for everyone. In case you’re confusing them with the bootcamps you do in the park or gym every Saturday morning, we’ve put together this short Skills Bootcamp guide to answer your frequently asked questions.

Right, what are these Skills Bootcamps you’ve been talking about?

They’re free, flexible training courses for adults aged 19+. Skills Bootcamps are developed in partnership with employers and business leaders to ensure they teach skills in-demand. And by in-demand, we mean practical vocational skills that are required for jobs in high-growth sectors like Green Energy and Digital.

Did you just say free?

That’s right; they’re funded by the government. There’s a small employer contribution for companies wishing to use Skills Bootcamps to upskill existing staff. But to everyone else, they’re completely free.

Sounds good. How long do they last?

Skills Bootcamps can run for up to 16 weeks. They’re entirely flexible and course lengths will vary.

What type of teaching’s involved? Is it based in a classroom?

Not necessarily. ‘Flexible’ is the key word again. Some Skills Bootcamps are classroom-based, others are delivered on-the-job or online. Or even a combination of all three. At DMR, we deliver our Skills Bootcamps with face-to-face, hands-on, training (and if you want to know more about our courses, we’ve dropped a couple of links in at the bottom of this page).

Who can join a Skills Bootcamp?

Nearly anyone aged 19+. Companies, employees, self-employed workers and subcontractors, unemployed people, career-breakers, prisoners due for release – all can benefit from Skills Bootcamps.

Brill. Best Bootcamp Benefits Being?

It depends on your circumstances.

Employers can benefit from Skills Bootcamps by upskilling their employees, leading to greater opportunities for business growth and diversification. Skills Bootcamps also present an excellent opportunity for companies to recruit new job-ready talent for free.

Employees and self-employed workers can use a Skills Bootcamp as a springboard to career progression and new responsibilities.

Unemployed people and career-breakers can kick-start a brand new career with the highly marketable job skills they’ll acquire. They’ll also build links to employers including a guaranteed job interview when they finish the course.

How can I find a Skills Bootcamp and apply for a place?

A good starting point is the Skills Bootcamp finder on Gov.uk.
