Different routes to Construction NVQ qualification
There’s more than one way to get your NVQ. Depending on your level of experience and confidence it could take 1 day or a few months. Find out which option is best for you.
OSAT NVQ Assessment (2-4 months)
If you are an experienced worker and you want to work towards your qualification at a steady pace, with time to collect evidence and retest your skills you might find that the OSAT assessment route is the best option for you. This approach can take two to four months to complete, giving you plenty of time to build up your portfolio evidence of work. You will have the support of a dedicated assessor who will guide you throughout the process and help you achieve your full potential.
Fast-Track NVQ (1 Day)
Fast-Track NVQ assessment is designed for highly experienced and confident construction workers who need to get their qualification quickly. This is a great option for workers needing a CSCS card in a hurry. Fast-Track is an intense form of NVQ assessment completed in just one day, which comes with its fair share of pressure, so it’s not for everyone. It is NOT an easy option or shortcut training route. Candidates will be expected to turn up on the day (with their own tools) and perform a task from a drawing provided on the day without any guidance or input from the assessor. The assessor will only advise on the time allowed for the task and observe/assess your work.
For a limited period DMR Training has NVQ funding available for 19-23 year-old construction workers resident in, or working for an employer based in Greater Manchester. This funding will only be available for the OSAT route so if you qualify this might help you decide which route to take.
