Skills Bootcamp in Domestic Retrofit Advice - Course Details

You’ve landed on this page at the perfect time. Skilled retrofit workers are in high demand, and the sector is desperate for talented and skilled recruits.

So, what is retrofit? It sounds like an ’80s themed aerobics class but retrofit is actually a construction-related process of identifying and installing modern energy-saving systems in buildings. Domestic retrofit focuses specifically on people’s homes and involves systems such as wall and loft insulation, heat pumps and solar PV.

If you think this sounds like an interesting and rewarding sector to work in, we completely agree with you. And that’s why we’re running our Skills Bootcamp in Domestic Retrofit Advice – to provide you with the training, support and qualifications that get you fit for retrofit.

Anyone aged 19+. Training is designed for both sector newcomers with no previous retrofit experience, and people already working in the sector but looking to upskill. Company employees, self-employed workers and unemployed people are all welcome to apply.

Skills Bootcamps in Domestic Retrofit Advice last 11 weeks.

There are no courses planned at present.

  • Delivering Retrofit Advice in Practice.
  • Home Energy Use and Why Retrofit Matters.

You’ll also receive extra support with employability skills, health and wellbeing, and CSCS card application.

Yes, you’ll gain a Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Retrofit Advice. This is an industry-recognised accredited qualification awarded by Open College Network West Midlands via AIM Qualifications.

Whilst there is no guarantee of a job after finishing the Skills Bootcamp, the course will empower you with the skills and knowledge needed to start a career as a retrofit advisor, or progress towards the role retrofit assessor.

All bootcamp graduates receive a guaranteed job interview.

If you’re unemployed or self-employed, it won’t cost you anything other than the time and effort needed to complete the course. In other words, it’s free.

Places for company employees are heavily subsidised but subject to a small employer contribution towards the cost.

To join the Skills Bootcamp, you must be:

  • Aged 19 or older.
  • Interested in a retrofit career (or already working in one).
  • Living or working in Greater Manchester.
  • Willing to commit to training for one day per week for 11 weeks.

Yes – Skills Bootcamps are ideal for companies looking to diversify into retrofit, and existing retrofit companies seeking to upskill their staff. As many Bootcamp trainees are unemployed, we can also help you with recruitment by connecting you to talented new entrants.
