Reports to: Managing Director

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £43000 – £50000 (based on experience)
Role overview
The Head of Business Development will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities that align with DMR’s strategic goals. The role requires a proactive and commercially minded leader who can expand our client base, enhance partnerships, and oversee revenue growth through innovative business strategies.
This is a senior role requiring strong leadership, negotiation, and relationship management skills to position DMR as a key provider of high-quality training and consultancy services in both regionally and nationally.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Business Growth & Strategy:
- Develop and implement a business development strategy that aligns with DMR’s growth objectives.
- Identify new market opportunities, funding streams, and revenue-generating initiatives.
- Drive expansion into new geographical regions.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop innovative training programmes that meet client and industry needs.
- Client Acquisition & Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, training providers, funding bodies, and key stakeholders.
- Support tendering and bidding processes for new contracts, ensuring high-quality submissions.
- Negotiate and secure long-term contracts and strategic partnerships.
- Represent DMR at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to increase brand awareness and business engagement.
- Revenue & Performance Management:
- Set and achieve sales targets, revenue growth, and profitability goals.
- Work closely with marketing to develop effective sales and promotional campaigns.
- Analyse market trends, competitor activity, and customer feedback to refine business strategies.
- support funding applications and compliance to maximise available funding streams.
- Leadership & Team Collaboration:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the business development team, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
- Work closely with senior management, including the Head of Curriculum and Compliance Teams, to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making at an executive level.
Manage and mentor staff, conducting regular performance reviews and identifying opportunities for professional growth.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience in a senior business development role within the training, education, or consultancy sector.
- Strong track record of securing high-value contracts, tenders, and funding applications.
- In-depth knowledge of the UK training and skills landscape, including apprenticeships, vocational training, and funded programmes.
- Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Experience in market expansion, client acquisition, and strategic growth planning.
- Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Business, Marketing, Education, or a related field.
- Experience working with international training providers or expanding business into overseas markets.
- Knowledge of compliance, quality assurance, and accreditation frameworks (e.g., Ofqual, ESFA, ISO).
