If you’re interested in employing an apprentice in a construction-related trade in Greater Manchester and the North West, you’ve come to the right place. Whether you already have someone in mind for the role, or need to recruit, DMR provides an all-in-one service including recruitment, training, assessment and help applying for grants.
Our Commitments to You and Your Company
Get in Touch
Discuss the apprenticeship with a member of our team. We’ll ask you a few questions about your company, the type of apprentice you’re looking to recruit and their job description.
We may already have some suitable candidates on our books. If not, we’ll promote the vacancy via our website, social media channels and online job boards.
Interviews and Trials
We’ll filter applications for suitable candidates, pre-screen them over the phone and interview them face-to-face as well. Once we’ve created a quality shortlist, we’ll put them forward for employer interviews and work trials.
Preparation & Enrolment
Once you’ve selected the right candidate, we’ll prepare both you and the candidate for the apprenticeship, and enrol them on their qualification. We’ll handle funding and advise you on grants you may be entitled to claim.
Ongoing Support & Feedback
Our role doesn’t end until the apprenticeship is successfully completed. Our assessors will provide you with regular feedback and provide ongoing support for the apprentice.
How it works

Make you aware of any costs up front.

Yes, an apprentice will go to college to complete their diploma (the majority of our apprentices come to our training academy in Leigh). Most apprentices attend college one day per week
You’re obliged to employ your apprentice for at least 30 hours a week and meet minimum wage laws. The current apprenticeship rate is £3.50 per hour for 16-18 year olds and those aged 19+ on the first year of their apprentice. All other apprentices must be paid the national minimum wage.
Apprenticeship timescales depend on a variety of factors such as the trade and the progress of the learner. Generally speaking, a construction apprenticeship takes between 18 months and two years to complete.
Apprenticeships for 16-18 year olds are usually fully funded and there is no cost to the employer other than the apprentice’s salary. For apprentices aged 19-24 you may be expected to make a contribution to the costs of training although you can often recoup more than this in training grants. DMR will always make you aware up front of any costs.
You could start by offering a young person work experience through a traineeship. This is a great way to trial a young person and assesses their suitability and attitude, without the committing to a full apprenticeship.
