Intro

Not all young people are ready to jump straight into an apprentice when they leave school, especially in a challenging and varied industry like construction. Our pre-apprenticeship courses designed to bridge that gap between school and work, and give you your first experience of a construction environment. On a pre-apprenticeship course with DMR, you’ll get the chance to try several different construction trades with the aim of finding the one that’s suited to you.

Construction Training Course

Our construction training course is perfect for school leavers aged 16-18 who know they want a career in construction but don’t know which trade they want to get into. This ‘taster course’ provides you with training in fundamental construction skills as well as training in specific trades such joinery and bricklaying.

Location:

DMR Training Academy in Leigh.

Duration:

Two days a week for up to nine months but we’ll look to move you into an apprenticeship as soon as we think you’re ready.

Construction training:

You will receive workshop training in several construction trades including joinery, brickwork, groundwork and plastering. You’ll also receive health & safety training and gain your CSCS Card.

Additional training:

‘Preparation for Work’ workshops including interview techniques and CV building.

Qualifications:

City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills, QCF Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment and Functional Skills.

Next Step:

A construction related apprenticeship.

Traineeship

A traineeship is a handy stepping stone from school to work where you’ll gain real onsite work experience with a local construction firm while growing your confidence and improving your CV.

Location:

DMR Training Academy in Leigh and work experience with a construction firm based in your local area.

Duration:

Four days a week for six weeks to several months.

Construction training:

You’ll receive on-the-job training at your work placement as well as workshop training at our academy.

Additional training:

‘Preparation for Work’ workshops including interview techniques and CV building

Qualifications:

QCF Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, Functional Skills and CSCS Card.

Next Step:

A construction related apprenticeship.
